    Rounded Corners 219 – Browser-Oriented Architecture

Awesome. RSpec 1.1.12 (can we call it 1.2 already?) From now on, it { should provide_implicit_subject }, cutting down a lot of unnecessary redundancy and bringing us one step closer to Nirvana. The second killer feature is Cucumber. Knowing that I have to write a lot more specs in the coming months, this is seriously exciting news.

Still undecided about jQuery vs Prototype? Maybe Glenn can help you make up your mind. Or not. Make sure to also read the comments for even more clarification/confusion. So it might not help you decide, but it did clarify a few things for me about the conceptual differences. I ended up preferring prototype a bit more after reading it though.

Speaking of Browser-Oriented Architecture, are poor applications better than rich applications? Or more rhetorically, do you prefer form or function?

The services I get most from are generally the simplest. I mean, look at Google Search. No mess, no fuss, just text.

Or it just might be that text is still king of the Web. Either way, with recession in full swing, I expect bare bones applications turning from mere functional to outright fashionable.

Function over platform. Yeah, the future is Cloud as a Service and browsers are the new OS, but the only app I found that could help me stay organized is Things. It’s not on the Web – and you feel the pain having to manually sync the Mac and iPhone clients – but it works, where none of the Web apps I tried had any lasting power.

Things does one thing, and does it right: “The best task management tool is one that helps me forget.”

jQuery is just plain awesome. I can’t imagine ever going back to Prototype. I’m just saying.

After having to use jQuery for a recent project, I’ve actually started to enjoy using it. It’s easy to use, and it’s lightweight. I’m probably going to re-code a bunch of things over at NTugo so I can use jQuery there instead of Prototype. It’s a lot better.
