Only a few get to do the first, for the rest of us it’s either two, three or both.
Many startups will tell you they do disruptive technologies, but they seem to forget it’s not about better, cheaper or faster. It’s about a technology that makes a difference in people’s lives, and that spreads around. Technologies that are better and unused disrupt only the people trying to sell them.
So what makes disruptive technologies so cool? They emerge out of nowhere next to some established giant, but have enough momentum that you can see the change coming. And there’s no greater story than rooting for the underdog that ends up winning the day.
