James McGovern rants about the train wreck that is Ruby. It’s a bit incoherent, though it makes some valid points, if you can find them in the rubble.
Mostly, it seems James is pointing out that enterprises will not use Ruby when they can use Java, the same way enterprises won’t use Java if they can use COBOL. Oops. He didn’t say the last part, others have said it for him a decade ago.
Maybe he’s right. Maybe he’s not. You be the judge.
I’m just wondering. James trackbacked to two of my earlier posts about dynamic languages, but never linked to them. That’s the equivalent of writing IN ALL CAPS. It’s a bit too spamish for my taste, but still I’ll give him some link love and karma points for his page rank.
Oh, and while we’re on the subject, here’s a courtesy link to Blue Fountain Systems. They develop in Ruby. They also develop for Toyota. Though, if James is right, they’ll be keeping those two practices apart.
