According to Merriam-Webster, “vista” is “a distant view through or along an avenue or opening.” Given the history, that makes it an excellent official name for the next major release of Windows, nee Longhorn, which has been in distant view for, what, five years now … Analysts seem to agree. Certainly Vista is a fantastic improvement over Redmond’s typically bland and cumbersome naming conventions. And that should make it quite a bit easier to market.
From Laura Thomson’s blog, via PHP developer:
Today we had a seminar from Dave Lemphers, who is a Developer Evangelist from Microsoft in Melbourne. He talked about upcoming stuff coming out of Microsoft, but the most memorable line of the talk from my perspective was when he was talking about Visual Studio 2005. He said “For those that don’t know, ASP.NET is our PHP-style technology”. :) How the world has changed.
